FAREWELL TO A LEGEND
Longtime King George principal Jason Lauzon is leaving for another secondary school in Vancouver. We love him because he’s an energetic and enthusiastic guy who really brightens up people's days. Lauzon is also known for blasting music during lunch time and understanding students' questions.
One of the most important things he's done is help organize KG’s 100th anniversary celebration. It brought alumni from all over Vancouver and the rest of the world back to KG for a couple of special days in 2014.
I talked to Lauzon about what he will miss the most. “By far, it will be the King George Spirit, and all the students who have supported me at my time at KG. I’d like to thank the past and current staff, who make this school KG. Special shout out to Jessie Coombs and Mr. Godfrey, getting my work done,” he laughed.
I asked him what's next. “I will be moving to Tupper Secondary. It’s a bit bigger with around 1,000 kids compared to KG’s 400.” It's an exciting new opportunity for him and we all wish him all the best.
… AND ANOTHER GOODBYE
After just a year and a half, Skills Department teacher Holli Lang is also moving schools. She is well known for having a “riddle of the day” along with memes on the classroom walls. She also teaches Career Life Education, a government course in grade 10.
So, what's next for Ms. Lang? She’ll be splitting her duties between Killarney and Kitsilano Secondary schools.
MYP PROJECT FAIR IS BACK
A scene from last year’s MYP Fair. (click to enlarge)
Every year, the Middle Years Program personal project fair is held, with this year's being one month earlier. Many Grade 10 students have been working hard this year to deliver a quality project and a 3,500 word essay.
The MYP project also counts for graduation.
In next month's column, we will have a behind-the-scenes look at the multiple project showcase.
The MYP Fair, along with the KG Archives, are open to the public on January 15th.
KG’s Dragons face off against Vancouver Technical.

INTO THE ARCHIVES
This month's archives photo is a “Visual Education Department” Class, or better known as typing class. The photo was taken in the late ‘60s in the new building.
To this day, this room is still used for typing, except with computers. But to be fair, there is no lag, viruses or slowdowns with typing.
