THAT'S ENTERTAINMENT!

Two Fighting Chance Productions @ PAL

It’s a busy season for the folks at Fighting Chance Productions as they present two shows, back-to-back, at Coal Harbour’s PAL Studio Theatre. (Click images to enlarge)

Buyer & Cellar

Ryan Mooney stars in "Buyer & Cellar" at PAL Studio Theatre.

February 6 - 10
Alex More has a story to tell. A struggling actor in L.A., he takes a job working in the Malibu basement of a beloved megastar. One day, the Lady Herself comes downstairs to play. It feels like real bonding in the basement, but will their relationship ever make it upstairs? An outrageous comedy about the price of fame, the cost of things, and the oddest of odd jobs.

Fighting Chance Productions' artistic director Ryan Mooney stars in this slightly absurdist one-man-show, directed by Christopher D. King.

“Buyer & Cellar”, by Jonathan Tolins, premiered at the Rattlestick Playwrights Theatre in New York City in 2013.

Cast members of "Pacific Overtures"

PACIFIC OVERTURES
February 16 - March 3

In their award-winning musical “Pacific Overtures” Stephen Sondheim and John Weidman mix elements of Kabuki theatre with the convention of the Broadway musical.

This inventive, powerful, educational and humourous theatrical experience, explores Commodore Matthew Perry's 1853 mission to open trade relations with isolationist Japan through gunboat diplomacy, and an unlikely friendship forged between the samurai Kayama and the Americanized fisherman Manjiro.

Kayama and Mangiro – and all of Japanese society – must face the wave of Westernization that follows.

Every single Sunday for the past 25 years, the folks at the historic church at Burrard and Nelson have presented the finest jazz musicians in the Lower Mainland in an afternoon performance where jazz meets, and dances, with the spirit.

February performances include: Steve Smith on Feb. 4; TBA on Feb. 11; The Hot Mammas on Feb. 18; and Anita Eccleston on Feb. 25. 4 to 5 p.m. By donation.
