The recently opened Stackhouse Steak Sandwich at 1102 Davie Street is a new gem of a restaurant in Davie Village.

The menu is small, with just three sandwiches offered, but all are bursting with flavour. “Comfort food,” chef-owner Eric Lee tells me.

The Stackhouse Steak Sandwich, features six ounces of medium-rare beef, accompanied by crispy onions and chimichurri sauce, served in a delicious baguette for $12.

Large enough to share!

Chef Eric explained that the Canadian Prime Beef is cooked sous vide for 10 hours. The result is perfection. Tender, sliced medium-rare beef. The chimichurri sauce, Chef Eric shares, gives an important tangy first bite.

If you don’t want the bread, ask for the beef lettuce wrap.

A Steak Tartar Open Sandwich is also offered at $12, served on a baguette with cornichons, capers, parsley, and red onion.

the signature Stackhouse Steak Sandwich.

Only available once a month for a couple of days is the almost instantly sold-out Dry-Aged Beef Brisket Sandwich for $28, with au jus, horseradish and Swiss cheese. A bargain when you check the prices for dry-aged beef brisket in most Vancouver steak restaurants.

Chef Eric announces on Instagram when the dry-aged beef brisket is available. Why only once a month? It takes Eric a month to prepare it!

The Caesar Salad at $8 is perfection. Freshly made with in-house dressing and croutons, the salad is sprinkled with shaved Parmesan Reggiano and gently placed anchovies.

The onion soup at $8 is delicious, with caramelized onions, Gruyere cheese, beef broth and croutons.

Potato chips with a truffle aioli for $5, smashed potato for $5, and vegetable pickles for $3 round out the menu.

A tangy and tasty caesar salad.

Need a dessert? The strawberry cheesecake in a jar is $7 and is mouthwatering, and a Juju Sorbet for $5 is also offered.

Tea is served in a teapot (awesome for tea lovers), and hot chocolate, three kinds of coffee, pop, water and zero-proof beer are available.

The greatest secret to this newly opened cafe is Chef Eric himself. Foodies will swoon over his culinary experience. He trained in French cuisine, graduating in 2002. He worked in the original Le Crocodile under Chef Michel Jacob, in Thomas Keller’s French Laundry, the Bouchon Bistro in the Napa Valley, and locally at the Fairmont Hotel, the Westin Bayshore and the Pinnacle.

Chef Eric and his brother created the very successful Damso Restaurant on Denman Street. After selling it, they opened the popular Oiso Kimchi Cafe on Kingsway, which they closed, promising to open a new location on the 1700 block of Robson Street. Unfortunately, problems at the new location have held up the plans.

Chef Eric needed a new project, so he opened Stackhouse Steak Sandwich.

Very fortunate for West Enders.
